Connecting to disconnect;
Disconnecting in order to connect…
Which of these are you doing with your life? Are you creating attachments, connecting to material things and disconnecting from yourself?
Are you connected to the world around you or to the stuff that surrounds you?
Sometimes it is hard to grasp why we rely so deeply on material possesions and superficial lives (social media). What is this need to be someone we are not? Are we afraid of something? Or are we just living in an automatic state?
When was the last time you asked yourself any of these questions? Are we aware of how disconnected we have become?
In this day to day modern lifestyle it is very easy to feel connected to the media and our social characters. At the same time it is also very easy to feel a huge void inside of us. Why? Because we are not living our lives through ourselves. We are living through social media, scrolling, dowloading apps, reading headlines, hearing scandals. We are conscious of almost everything that is going on in the world.
What is going on with you?
We have adapted to media and made it part of our routine. The same way we brush our teeth every morning, we scroll for a few minutes before getting out of bed. In the moment a conversation becomes silent, we look into out cellphones for company; even though there is someone right next to us.
Not only that, but we have taken the habit of disconnecting from our realities by numbing our brain with so much media junk. We spend so much time on Netflix, scrolling down Instagram and Facebook, watching silly videos, retweeting silly posts, etc… Is this really our hobbie or is it just that we don’t want to live our reality? Or maybe it is just a matter of a habit, something we do because everyone else does so.
Truth be told our reality will never change if we don’t face it. You want to have a life you like one you saw while scrolling down Instagram. Get out there! Go create your own!
This very connection is part of what keeps us disconnected. From what? FROM YOU. The more time you invest looking into others’ lives, the more time you take away from yourself.
Connecting is not only about letting the media go and becoming aware of yourself. It is also about becoming aware of your present time. The humans passing you by, the birds flying above you, the flowers ahead of you, the sun shinning on you, the rain refreshing you. Enjoy every single one of them, smile at them, smell them, thank them, greet them, connect with them.
The first step to reconnecting is awareness. Let’s become aware of how connected we truly are. The next step is simply enjoying your life. And no, your phone is not your life. Your life is happening, right now as you scroll down this post. Go live it!
