Establishing the Connection

Previously I have introduced some posts about the connection between mind, body and soul. In this post I would like to further this knowledge.

For years the dialogue about the connection between gut and mind has been established. Not only through medicine (Ayuverdic, and Chinese medicine for example) but also through our own knowledge. We constantly see this connection very clearly, whenever we get “butterflies” in our stomach or we are anxious, or we make a certain decision because in our gut it feels right. And we even see the physical repercussions of stress: hair loss, acne, insomnia and so on.

The “small” symptoms our body shows when we are feeling a certain way is certainly palpable. But, what happens when we put our spirits aside as well? I could be very dramatic and mention cancer, but really that is just another symptom. The root of our health problems are often (just to not say always) based on our unbalanced selves. Not just because we don’t eat right, sleep right, or take time to relax. But also because we don’t think right nor do we pay attention to ourselves correctly.

Based on my previous posts, by now you should understand that we are 100%, not only what we eat, but what we think. And our spirits play a huge role in what we think, hence what we are.

It has been said a numerous amount of times. One percent of us belongs to the physical realm and ninety nine percent of us to the spiritual realm. We are 1% PHYSICAL, and 99% SPIRITUAL. Yes, it’s true. As “Deepak Chopra” as it sounds, we are spiritual beings in an earthly plane.

As we continue through life ignoring what our spirit needs of us we make our mind and health problems a lot more intricate. Why? Because we are not in tune with ourselves. Therefore we know not what we want, we just go by automatically making rash decisions.

If we can grasp the notion that our minds and bodies are connected, then understanding that our spirit plays a role in this shouldn’t be so difficult.

Have you ever ignored something you really wanted to do? And this something surpassed your gut and mind feeling? There was something bigger inside of you screaming that you needed to do that.

Did you?

If you did, you understand that something inside of you was your spirit saying “GO GO GO, YES THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE HERE FOR GO AHEAD!”.

If you didn’t do it, your probably looking back at that moment and feeling regretful. But, let’s reflect a bit on why you didn’t do it. Surely, you found a thousand reasons not to and they seemed right at the moment. But, did any of these reasons affect you? Or did you just find more excuses than reasons.

Allow yourself to go into a little moment with you:

Close your eyes (or don’t however you feel)

Take a deep breath, inhale and exhale.

Put your hands gently on your stomach, and ask “how am I feeling right now?” Then ask yourself, “how do I want to feel?”… hear intently.

Take another deep, deep breath.

Now, put your hands on your chest or heart. Ask, “what would make me feel how I want to feel?” “What can I do to feel satisfied with myself?” Hear intently and with curiosity. Pay attention to the answer.

Another deep, deep, deep breath.

Place your hands gently on your head. Ask, “how will I achieve this?” “What is my next move?” Visualize your plan.

You might be asking yourself what is the point of all of this. Well, you have just established a very important connection. A connection with you. Taking in consideration your mind, body and soul. Remember your soul is where your core self lies. It is where the real answers are. Our mind simply tells us how to construct the plan our being wants to execute and our body simply expresses how we are really feeling.

I encourage you to try this simple exercise more often and see where it takes you. Hear yourself more closely, be more curios about what you really want. Is what you want what others want for you? Or what your spirit (you) is longing for?

Welcome Yourself

Why is it we feel the need to fill up silence?

I have mentioned the importance of silence before, but in this post I would like to explore it with you.

Whenever we are at home, in the car, at the beach, or even with friends, at some point there comes a moment of silence. We sometimes call it “awkward silence”, but why is it awkward?

We automatically start blabbing about non-important topics, maybe about the latest Kardashian scandal, but on the inside we truly don’t want to talk about that. We just can’t stand the silence so we fill it up with the first thing that occurs to us.

Have you ever thought this could be our own fear of being real? Fear of, for a moment, hearing our actual thoughts and sharing them? What is wrong with talking about what you really feel? Why do we feel ashamed of expressing our emotions and thoughts?

We are not confident with silence maybe because we aren’t confident with our thoughts, with ourselves. Because we have put them aside for so long and acquired everyone else’s ideals as “normal” and “correct” ones.

How do we become comfortable with our thoughts and emotions? The key is silence…. SURPRISE! Conscious breathing and keeping calm helps us analize our thoughts better, make better desicions. Becoming one with the world around you as opposed to just going by it is another way to get in tune with you.

In order to concentrate, to finish an essay, to work faster, to write a book, to have a serious conversation etc… we ask for silence. Then, why not give into it all the time? Why not be focused throughout our day? Why wait until an “important” moment presents itself to ask for silence? Our whole lives, actions, reactions and desicions are important all the time.

What are you waiting for? The inner you is waiting anxiously to be heard! You have so many desires, ideas, and aspirations inside of you just itching to come about! Welcome them! WELCOME YOURSELF!

Decisions

Have you ever thought your life is out of control in some sense? You are constantly broke, house a mess, not enough rest, not enough hours in the day to do everything you need to do. Hectic right? The truth is, much of these aspects of our life fall out of control the moment we let everything control our lives except ourselves.

We repeatedly allow our laziness, bad habits and comfort zones control our lives. Most of the time we prefer doing whatever activity we enjoy rather than facing the reality that we are growing up and there are some things we need to reprioritze. Sometimes its our diet, spending money on unnecessary things, staying up late when we know we have to wake up early. We also give into our impulses so much, so many things we could chose not to do in order to the ones we have to do and yet we chose wrong.

The key to gaining the control of our lives once again is fairly simple, consciousness. We tend to make so many unconscious decisions and later on we are thinking “why am in this situation?”, “why didn’t I just say no”. Making conscious decisions is crucial to our personal development journey.

I have always said “be the river not the rock”, but there are times when we need to put our foots down and do what is good for us. Ask yourselves:

• “How is this helping me get closer to my goals?”

• “Could I regret doing this in the future?”

• “Is this the best way to invest my time?”

• “How much time and energy will this consume of me?”

A minute or two you consume reflecting on your desicions will save you hours, days, months and even years of wasted time.
